Beth began her writing career as a playwright for a children's
theatre company and has spent much of her life performing and directing plays. She co-founded a puppet-theatre company
(many years ago!) and actually made her living as a puppeteer for five years. Eventually realizing that her tastes ran more
toward the dark and bizarre (something that doesn't go over so great in children's theatre) she decided to return to school and
take her theatrical studies in a new direction. While attending Ohio State she developed a fascination for film and popular
culture. She also rekindled a long-time interest in the study of
magic and illusion. She (finally!) earned her Ph.D. by combining
her love for theatre, horror and magic shows and writing a dissertation on Midnight
Ghost Shows (think "magic show with monsters, blood, horrific effects and a film.")
Beth now spends her days working at the Columbus Metropolitan Library (no librarian
jokes please!) and her nights writing, directing, surfing the web or planted on the couch
watching her latest "film find." As mentioned above, she lo-o-oves horror films
and is particularly fond of the 'Evil Dead' films,
Dario Argento's works and 'Night Of The Living Dead'. She also has a real soft spot for animals of any kind and wants to take "one of
everything" home every time she visits a pet store or a zoo. Since that's somewhat
impractical, she currently resorts to doting on her two American Eskimo dogs and four
cats. Sometimes Beth has to suppress her dark, nefarious side to take on lighter,
more traditional writing projects. She served as editor of Theatre Studies for three
years, has written essays for the American National Biography, The Journal Of
dramatic Theory And Criticism and is a contributor to the Gale Group's Drama For
Students series. She currently reviews websites for Briefme.com and writes for
Fearsmag.com. Beth's friends tell her she spends way too much time watching horror
films— and that it makes them nervous.... She loves when they get nervous.
