Nicolette Sheridan 'Definitely Not Desperate'
by Bridget Petrella with additional writing by John Mundazio

Desperate Housewives star Nicolette Sheridan [Edie Britt] is FAR from being desperate these days. The ex-Knots Landing star, who declined to join her old cast mates for CBS' upcoming Knot's Landing Reunion Special, which is scheduled to air in the coming months is enjoying her rather recent career insurgence. Always the sophisticated leading lady, the "real" Nicolette Sheridan is also extremely free-spirited, clever, funny and most of all… incredibly down to earth. She adores her dog Oliver, a golden-haired retriever [who recently toured Europe with her on a promotional jaunt for the show] as she was rather concerned about Oliver being subjected to the grueling humidity in the UK. "I was hoping it wouldn't be too hot for Oliver, but I knew he'd be fine once he dove into the swimming pool a few times," the actress explains while laughing. "He's not at all fond of the heat," she says. I decided that it might be better not to mention the fact that perhaps Oliver shouldn't watch the show, given his obvious distaste for all things hot. Desperate Housewives is as hot as it gets on network television— as the show has been a complete break out hit since its debut, much to the surprise of the Madison Avenue marketing execs, who believe the only people watching are under the age of twenty. "I'm so pleased that the audience 'gets it' all," Sheridan explains, "I really feel as though we've given women in their late 30s and 40s a way to just vent and laugh and that is so important right now."

Despite the show’s success, as always, the mainstream media has shrouded the desperately fab five in controversy as in— what “really” goes on when the cameras are turned off? Sheridan takes it all in stride, "It's so funny to me, all of these ridiculous rumors about what goes on behind the scenes— between all of the women in the cast," she says rather candidly. I don't believe people buy into that sort of thing for too long. It's ironic you know, if we were five men, I wouldn't feel at all compelled to dispel this stuff. I will tell you this though, we are all aware of this sort of thing, most of us having done other shows, so we try not to take it all too seriously. We all get along well. Of course, I can only speak for myself here, but as far as I'm concerned, I have so much admiration and appreciation for all of my co-stars, I thoroughly enjoy working with them and the only complaint I have right now is that I wish I had more time with them on the set. It's so much fun. If you have an opportunity to review the first season DVD, which is being released some time in October, you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. The DVDs include a ton of X-Rated scenes, a dirty laundry gag reel, it's all very unexpected and that's what the set is really like. We enjoy each other’s company and we laugh a lot."

When asked about her ex-Lois and Clark co-star, the illustrious Terri Hatcher, Sheridan laughs a bit and then sighs almost simultaneously, “Terri and I are friends— and I know that sounds so trite and cliché but it’s actually true. We both found it absolutely hilarious when we heard that one of the tabloids printed this absurd story saying that I didn’t invite Terri to my wedding. We were saying to each other, ‘Wedding? What wedding?’— it was so surreal to both of us. Oh, and then there was the one about Terri throwing a bottle or a piece of glass at me… or something crazy like that… it’s like, ‘C’mon now’… There are so many REAL things going on in the world that should be exposed, like hunger and children being used as weapons, it’s unbelievable that these issues aren’t being talked about more... more than things that never happened.”

While Sheridan is extremely funny and completely relaxed, Edie, on the other hand, is not. “The only thing I believe I have in common with Edie is that both of us are very direct and forthcoming," the actress jokes. "It must be the English background because I’ve never felt compelled to do anything Edie would be inclined to do on a whim." With that in mind, Sheridan is certainly not being “whimsical” about her career, the actress is perpetually on the move as she prepares for an upcoming role in the film, The Cleaner opposite Cedric The Entertainer. “The film is about an amnesiac janitor [Cedric] who is fooled into believing he's this undercover agent on the trail of an international arms ring involving the CIA and the FBI. The script is really funny so I’m truly looking forward to it.”

As Sheridan continues to chew up the scenery at ABC with her brilliant performances, all of us here at The Tube File will be snubbing those “politically infused” Emmys this year and focusing instead on nominating our favorite leading actress for a well-deserved Tube File Award… Nicolette Sheridan. Robbed of awards far too numerous to mention, UPBEAT Entertainment News Publisher Bridget Petrella spends an abnormal amount of time researching old TV Guide issues. Strangely, no comets, novas or other phenomena heralded her birth in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania but she's quite certain that a groundhog sneezed somewhere in complete euphoria.
