Jakks Pacific's 'Flywheels XPV®™' Astonishing and Then Some.
The The Jakks Pacific Flywheels XPV, which stands for Extreme Performance Vehicle, is a remote control vehicle with wheels and wings that takes off from any flat surface. Once in the air, the XPV can fly more than 20 stories high at almost 20 miles per hour. This is the first R/C plane we've seen that really lives up to its promise of an astounding level of performance, and while it has a bit of a learning curve, once mastered, it's easy and fun to fly. All of us here at UPBEAT Entertainment News were overwhelmed by the demonstrations we conducted with test groups aged 11 through 14. Shocked in the best possible way, that is. Not only did the XPV climb to an impressive height, but also the distance it was able to travel from the remote seemed to take it across the park. In California, the plane flew out over a rush of traffic on Pacific Coast highway and back with ease and total control. Flying the XPV at these types of height and distance is a blast but even just watching the vehicle soar and dive is also fun. Pretty amazing stuff! No longer do you have to choose between a remote-controller plane or a car ... now you can have both in one. While chances are good that an 8-year old will love the XPV, it's going to take a slightly older child to master flying it. That's why we feel the XPV would make a great toy for kids 12 and older. But don't worry if a younger sibling takes it for a flight. The durable construction will stand up to most crash landings. And trust us, we put the XPV through some fairly grueling trials. As we often tell both parents and kids— read and follow all the directions before you play with the XPV. We promise you'll be much happier in the long run. The suggested retail price comes in at $59.99 [which is a bargain, given the quality and durability of the Jakks Pacific brand].

The XPV is powered by a rechargeable Lithium-ion Polymer battery, which is sold separately for $30. The battery takes 45 minutes to an hour to fully charge and will last up to 20 minutes before it requires another charge. This is a significantly faster charge time and longer flight time than most other planes out there. Plus, there are tips to make the battery time last longer, such as gliding, included with the plane. Out of the box, there is a lot of tape on the plane. This is part of the design— and the directions will explain this as well. Broken pieces can easily be glued back on together, but again, the plane can really take a beating in play. UB

John Mundazio works for one of the numerous publishing companies in the New York metropolitan area which is currently planning a bold takeover of the parallel universe in which he occasionally resides with several of his imaginary friends and at least two of the strange voices in his head. But he is confident it is not the one you're thinking of at this very moment. Convinced that Susie-Q's are indeed a food group and that no REAL list of fun toys is ever really complete without mentioning "Log"— that quintessential Ren and Stimpy Show toy that boldly dared to go where no toy ever could... "The Dazed-Meister" refuses to partake in anything which requires him to dress up like Wonder Woman or sing the theme song from The Partridge Family in its entirety. He also opposes floatation devices of any sort.
