One of our columnists actually worked in a health food store once. A guy came in and asked her point blank, "If I melt dry ice, can I take a bath without getting wet?" She knew then that it was time to create a health and fitness column for UPBEAT. What do we call anyone who loses 45 pounds in less than a month? An irrepressible liar. Our Health Bytes column adheres to one of the oldest rules we could actually find with only 13 minutes notice: "Thou shalt not ever weigh more than one's own refrigerator!" This is indeed something to keep in mind while perusing those grocery store aisles in search of that ever-elusive Twinkie Valu-Pak. Chocolate is derived from cocoa beans. Bean = vegetable. Sugar is derived from either sugar CANE or sugar BEETS. Both are plants, which places them in the vegetable category. Thusly, in our completely delusional minds... chocolate is a vegetable. But seriously folks, Health Bytes is a fun, sometimes even serious look at what's healthy and what is not. We also delve into informative perspectives on various issues while tossing in just a dash of humor when absolutely necessary. As with any/all health and fitness issues, all material is provided for informational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice. You should not use the information in this column for diagnosing or treating a medical or health condition. You should carefully read all product packaging. If you have or suspect you have a medical problem, promptly contact your professional healthcare provider. Please consult your healthcare provider before beginning any course of supplementation or treatment. Other than that, feel free to e-mail us with fitness suggestions or just to let us know that Frappacinos are NOT to be substituted for health shakes that taste exactly like sawdust and milk.
