It’s not often one finds a perfect balance between refined, world-class cuisine and bountiful, hungry-man fare, but somehow we managed to do just that. Ask anyone in the Mid-West and they'll probably confess, Nebraska is quite infamous for its extraordinary beef, especially those massive, mouth-watering steaks. Well, we strongly suggest that you savor a little piece of heaven for yourself as you devour some sumptuous delights from Nebraska’s Famous Steaks™. Trust us when we say, the food literally speaks for itself. We started off with the filet mignons which turned out to be the ultimate in dining pleasure. When you really need to impress someone, or you have a very special occasion coming up, this perfectly aged filet mignon is the obvious choice. This steak is extremely delicious and succulent. Our editors all collectively agreed and swear it is far better fare than the ol' "Outback Steakhouse." If you adore rich and robust cuts of meat tender, juicy steak here it is. Prep time includes approximately an hour for marinating. The longer the better! If you want to decrease the serving size it is not necessary to decrease the amount of marinade. For our marinade we used 2  teaspoons of meat tenderizer (1 per pound) combined with ½ cup red wine vinegar, ¼  cup of water, ¼  cup of low sodium soy sauce, 1½  teaspoons of sugar, ½  teaspoon of dried thyme, ¼  teaspoon of pepper and 1 clove of garlic, crushed. Simple and easy. Feeling exceptionally ravenous? Nebraska’s Famous Steaks™ offers prime-cut filet mignon or New York steaks in “suit-your-size” cuts ranging from 6 and 12 ounces, respectively.

As for the steaks, most are best served cut width-wise, in delicate slices [to facilitate fashionable “family-style” sharing], and when it comes to Nebraska’s Famous Steaks™, these beauties comes in all shapes and sizes, ranging from a suitably enormous porterhouse to a thin, surgically sliced flatiron cut of beef oozing with exquisitely robust flavor. In between, there’s a tough but rather tasty cut of sirloin steak, of course, the aforementioned absurdly tender filet mignon, and the tried and true classic twelve-ounce New York strip. It’s best prepared charred and salty on the exterior, so that when you take a bite, the result is a pleasurable candy-like crunch that will indeed wow and amaze even the most choosey connoisseurs. Our Features Editor, John Mundazio, is one of the most discerning meat purveyors we know. He is obsessed with the purity of the perfect strip steak... and literally demands far more care and quality when it comes to beef. John was extremely impressed with this New York strip steak. John tells us that Corn-fed cattle, specifically Angus and Hereford cattle, produces the best marbling. Marbling is fat, yes, but it is a different kind of fat than the greasy stuff that we often remove from the outside of steaks and other foods. Marbling appears in the interior of the steak. It is the determination of flavor. It is the indication of a prime steak, the highest grade accorded by the USDA.

And finally, the porterhouse steak is without equal and is precisely why we strongly suggestion that you order early so that you are prepared for the upcoming holidays. The meat-eaters among us have voted Nebraska’s Famous Steaks™ as one of the leaders of the herd when it comes to porterhouse steaks. We used the following easy-to-follow recipe to create the perfect dish; 1 teaspoon of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of your favorite meat tenderizer, 1 teaspoon of your favorite steak seasoning. We allowed our marinade to sit overnight and then we grilled the porterhouse steaks to a medium well and served everything up with sides of asparagus tips and twice-baked potatoes. It couldn't any easier. "Canadian Steak Seasoning" is made by McCormick. It is also available generically as "Master Choice" GREAT SHAKES— Grilled Steak Seasoning. This can be used for any type of steak— not just the porterhouse. Try it with all of the Nebraska’s Famous Steaks™. Tenderizer and MSG can be sprinkled together or only one and not the other. We found that Nebraska’s Famous Steaks™ were a great match for our George Foreman grill! UB
