These organic pears are to DIE FOR! We recently received a rather lovely box of Harry & David's trademarked Organic Royal Riviera Pears and I have to admit [if only to you my loyal readers] that at first, I was actually a "tad" bit skeptical. As many of you know, I have a rather extensive background in public relations so whenever a PR rep calls and "claims" to have a product "...so delicious that it will defy any attempt to find the perfect adjective for..." Well, let's just say I gathered up my best editors and set out to do some serious gourmet myth-busting! We were given some rather specific instructions; wait a few days before sampling the pears as they take at least a day or two to "fully blossom" with sweet and flawless flavor. And so... we waited. The PR claims were not only true, they paled in comparison to the actual taste experience of these truly amazing specimens! We had discovered a bounty of opulent taste sensations sure to delight the pear connoisseur and the novice alike. Eat them with a spoon, but be sure to place them in a bowl first as you will NOT want to miss a single drop of pure pear ecstasy! For God's sake it was "temptation in a wonderfully packaged box"! Now then, I must say, as I have always said, some tastes just go well together.

So as we were sampling Harry & David's Organic Royal Riviera Pears, we experimented a bit and created a rather luscious pairing [or, pearing, if you will] of a few Organic Royal Riviera Pears with the sharpness some California white Cheddar cheese that we just happened to have on hand. The combination was absolutely exceptional... and then some. We each savored the wonderful mix that seemed to just compliment each and every taste bud on the way down.

The Comice pear has long been enjoyed by European nobility for its smooth, creamy texture and exquisite flavor. Grown in only a few places in the world, the pear has found the perfect home in Southern Oregon’s Rogue Valley, where in 1934 brothers Harry and David Holmes launched their famous gourmet gift business with the premium fruit. Since the start of Harry and David nearly 70 years ago, millions of Americans have continued to send and receive Harry and David’s pears, called Royal Riviera Pears by the brothers, as holiday gifts. Their rich, creamy texture, succulent juiciness (so juicy you can actually eat them with a spoon) and large, pound-apiece size make Royal Riviera Pears the ultimate holiday gift.
