Pasta, which is the Italian translation for noodles, most likely originated in Central Asia. The Chinese were eating “a similar noodle-like food” as early as 3,000 B.C. To debunk popular belief, pasta did not come to Italy with Marco Polo: A listing of pasta exists in an Italian estate record of 1275, twenty years prior to Mr. Polo’s rather infamous China visit. While Polo may have brought back pasta, and the overall extensiveness of his many travels no doubt publicized pasta and his other “discoveries” throughout Europe; he was hardly the first Italian to enjoy it. We received a wonderful 5 lb. package of Alfonso Gourmet Pasta's finest Lobster Ravioli to review. At the time, I remembered having Lobster Ravioli in a Saffron sauce at Pane Caldo in the Gold Coast... but that memory paled in comparison once we had our chef prepare what can only be described as a luxurious feast fit for more than just a few nobles in royal attire. Alfonso Gourmet Pasta is indeed a 'cut above' excellence when it comes to presentation, taste and quality. Each of the Lobster Ravioli is fully filled for a luscious lobster taste and trust us, it was absolutely superb! We combined the Lobster Ravioli with an old family recipe for sauce which consisted of virgin olive oil flavored with freshly minced onion and garlic and a dash of white wine.

Prepared together, our delicious gourmet meal was ready to serve in less than eight minutes. Alfonso Gourmet Pasta serves up truly creative cuisine, passionate flavors, and stunning a simply presentation. Most great gourmet pasta companies are grounded in traditional techniques and ingredients. We strongly believe that it’s inevitably what they do with that tradition that makes them great. For this reason and many more, we selected Alfonso Gourmet Pasta as one of our Editor's Choice Award Winners for 2007, an honor which is well-deserved! Lobster ravioli is our version of a popular Italian favorite, which will leave you singing sweet amore! Delicate pasta pillows are stuffed with the chef's secret lobster filling... This is a pasta for the serious seafood lover. Two of the ocean's most beloved delicacies, lobster and shrimp, are skillfully mixed with garden-fresh mushrooms and roasted red peppers. The filling is then added to the [again, top secret] famous five cheese blend and wrapped in a traditional egg dough.

Our crack UPBEAT staff also prepared them with a flavorful lobster cream sauce and chunks of lobster and crab meat. Lobster ravioli is a quick-fix meal that you can easily create and serve in just minutes. It's a sheer indulgence that your guests will believe you slaved over for hours. If Alfonso isn’t the king of pasta, he certainly is a member of the royal family. When you look at the incredible ravioli he makes, you may be tempted by the oval-shaped Kalamata Olive Ravioli, the Butternut Squash Ravioli, the Duck Ravioli or the Shrimp Scampi Ravioli. Order those too, and enjoy them the day after Valentine’s Day. There's more to Alfonso Gourmet Pasta than you may be accustomed to. The fine folks who create these enduring pastas start each day by mixing the finest durum wheat and eggs to form the foundation of their award-winning doughs. For some pastas, the egg dough is enough; for others, they go a step further. When you see a colored dough on the Alfonso Gourmet Pasta menu, you are not looking at food coloring or any other artificial ingredient. They infuse all of their doughs with powdered spinach, beet, saffron, strawberry, blackberry, and mushroom to create all-natural, flavored doughs that are simply the best in the world. Sometimes two ingredients are striped together; sometimes the taste of just one is enough. Either way, with each bite you will know why they have become one of the fastest growing fresh pasta companies in the United States.

Of course in Alfonso Gourmet Pasta's Ravioli, Tortellini, Tortelloni, and Agnolotti, the dough is merely the beginning! Throughout the company's vast menu selection you will find these gourmet pastas stuffed with more of this fabulously infamous five cheese blend, an expertly crafted mixture of  exquisite imported parmesan, Romano, ricotta, mozzarella, and provolone cheeses. Add in to this exalted equation a prodigious assortment of imported delicacies ranging from gourmet prosciutto to real Maine Lobster to much-coveted Italian Truffles, and you are guaranteed a simple-to-prepare meal that rivals the taste, texture, and quality of those found in five-star restaurants and resorts. In fact, Alfonso Gourmet Pasta's biggest clients are five-star restaurants and resorts! With the new Alfonso Gourmet Pasta online store, they help bring the same dishes used by gourmet chefs around the world directly to your family dinner table. When you shop with Alfonso Gourmet Pasta, rest assured you are ordering the finest food that money can buy.
